What is Manux?
Manux based on Knoppix 5.01 CD.
With Manux the original Knoppix was enlarged and modified, however, on the German-speaking room. The licence of Manux is GNU GPL.
The Idea behind Manux is, that there is a small Base version with a very small system (KDE is on board). You then can adapt this base CD to your needs.
Manux is a bootable Live system on CD or DVD, consisting of a representative collection of software, automatic hardware detection, and support for many graphics cards, sound cards, SCSI and USB devices and other peripherals.Manux can be used as a rescue system or as linux demo. It is not necessary to install anything on a hard disk (!!! I don't recommend this!!!). Due to on-the-fly decompression, the CD can have up to 2 GB of executable software installed on it. (about 850 MB on Base CD)
What software is installed on the Manux-CD?
The following "Highlights" are available on the download version of this Debian/Knoppix-based (www.debian.org) CD:
- Linux-Kernel 2.6.17
- KDE V3.5.3 as the standard desktop with WWW-browser Firefox
- X Multimedia System (xmms) an MPEG-video, MP3, Ogg Vorbis Audio player and xine
- Internet connection software kppp, pppoeconf (DSL) and isdn-config
- some programming languages, development tools and libraries for developers
- in total more than 500 installed software packages with over 1000 executable user programs, utilities, and games
What are the minimum system requirements?
Intel-compatible CPU (i486 or later),
32 MB of RAM for text mode, at least 96 MB for graphics mode with KDE (at least 128 MB of RAM is recommended),
bootable CD-ROM drive, or a boot floppy and standard CD-ROM (IDE/ATAPI or SCSI),
standard SVGA-compatible graphics card,
serial or PS/2 standard mouse or IMPS/2-compatible USB-mouse.
How is Manux started?
Download the ISO Image, check MD5sum and burn the CD. (Image is EL Torrito specification )
To start the CD, set up the BIOS of your computer to boot off the CD, put the CD in the drive, and power up or reboot the computer.

Knoppix5 Commands(Silly name I know :-D)
KNOPPIX - The base of MANUX
Knoppix is a computer operating system which can be used as a live CD. It is a Debian based Linux distribution, developed by Linux consultant Klaus Knopper.
Manux is based on Knoppix and used the automatic hardware detection, and support for many graphics cards, sound cards, SCSI and USB devices and other peripherals. All Scripts of Knoppix are in Manux, too
Since this is a genuine open source project, subject to the GNU General Public License,
the source code for the KNOPPIX-specific packages is available via the Internet. You may find the sources for the installed Debian packages on the various Debian mirrors. Additionally, you can order the sources directly from Knopper.Net for the cost of material, copying, packaging and postage. This offer is valid for 3 years, counting from the build date of a Knoppix CD-Rom/DVD.
